‘Corrupt’ Italian PM calls for Blix justice

Following a lengthy investigation into alleged corruption back in the 1980s, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has called for an independent team of investigators to finish the job and clear his name. Italian critics of Berlusconi have accused the Prime Minister of trying to ‘throw up a smoke-screen between himself and his pursuers.’

A Berlusconi aide strenuously denied these suggestions, telling reporters: ‘Mr Berlusconi would never use a smoke-screen, unless he needed to make a swift exit. No, he has seen the great work Dr Blix undertook in searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and feels sure a similarly thorough job will vindicate him.’
